ExxonMobil, in collaboration with Brazilian packaging manufacturer Videplast, has developed a cost-effective vacuum skin packaging (VSP) solution that contains no ionomers and reduces film thickness for food packaging.
The new packaging solution utilises a high-performance polyethylene from ExxonMobil and is designed to meet market demand for high-performance and cost-effective packaging. Thanks to its properties, the new film is the ideal choice for applications in the food sector, such as the Packaging of small portions of meat, cheese, fish or seafood, according to the manufacturer.
The new vacuum skin packaging solution offers protection against spoilage, leakage and contamination of food and beverages. extends the shelf life of perishable goods, by extracting air and ensuring a tight seal. By reducing the thickness of the film and dispensing with ionomers, it is also said to ensure considerable cost savings.
For the production of the high-quality, durable film with good barrier properties ExxonMobil's Exceed XP 7052ML high-performance polyethylene is used for the film. Videplast manufactures the VSP film using advanced processing techniques to ensure the performance and consistency of the end product. The vacuum packaging process offers good thermoformability and allows for a high oxygen barrier, which ensures a high level of protection. Effective vacuum sealing and therefore longer shelf life of the packaged goods.
