From 24 to 26 September 2024, the European packaging industry will once again gather at FACHPACK, one of the most important trade fairs for packaging, technology and processes, at Exhibition Centre Nuremberg. Over 1,400 exhibitors are expected there to present the latest developments and innovations in the fields of packaging materials, packaging machines, automation technology and much more.
This year's main theme „Transition In Packaging“ reflects the current change in the industry and will be clearly visible both in the eleven exhibition halls and in the supporting programme of the event.
Visitors from the consumer and industrial goods industry can look forward to a broad programme of presentations in the PACKBOX, INNOVATIONBOX and SOLPACK 5.0 forums. These forums offer a platform for exchanging ideas on current topics such as the new PPWR regulations, the circular economy, automation and artificial intelligence as well as alternative packaging solutions and new fibre raw materials. According to the organisers, the aim is to provide important impetus for the future of the industry.
International orientation of FACHPACK 2024
FACHPACK 2024 is once again positioning itself as a continental event with a strong focus on the European market. Heike Slotta, Executive Director Exhibitions at NürnbergMesse, emphasises that 54 percent of exhibitors come from Germany, while the rest are mainly from the DACH economic region and neighbouring countries. Turkey in particular is strongly represented this year. Around 20 per cent of the exhibitors are newcomers, whereby the internationality of this group is described as exceptionally high at 70 per cent.
Top-class supporting programme and networking opportunities
FACHPACK sees itself as a driving force in the industry, which is reflected not only in the product exhibition but also in the extensive supporting programme. In the PACKBOX renowned partners from the packaging industry will shape the programme and invite visitors to actively participate in the discussions. The forums will be moderated by experts such as Dr Johannes Bergmair from the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) and Oliver Berndt from the German Packaging Institute (dvi).
The INNOVATIONBOX offers exhibitors the opportunity to present their latest product developments and process innovations in short presentations. Visitors will be accompanied by moderators Nina Schönrock and Petra Bindl. The forum SOLPACK 5.0 focusses on sustainable packaging solutions and is moderated by Peter Desiléts and Volker Muche from the packaging design agency Pacoon GmbH.
A special highlight this year is the Networking event Women4Packaging, which takes place on the first day of the trade fair. This event offers women in the packaging industry a platform to network, be inspired and discuss current trends. The keynote speech will be given by Vera Strauch, founder of the Female Leadership Academy.
The German Packaging Award, one of the biggest European awards for innovative packaging solutions, will also be presented on the first day of the trade fair. A total of 41 winners will be honoured from almost 250 submissions from 13 countries. Particularly outstanding is the special prize for young talent, which is awarded in cooperation with FACHPACK and honours innovative packaging concepts from school pupils, trainees and students.
Promotion of young talent
The third day of the trade fair will be dedicated to young talent in the packaging industry. At the STUDENTS DAY over 60 students from German-speaking countries will meet experts from up to ten packaging companies and brand owners. The requirements of the future and specific job opportunities in the industry will be discussed in workshops. Students can also take part in their own FACHPACK Students‘ Tour and talk to industry representatives at the Meet & Greet.
FACHPACK TV and alternative packaging solutions
Packaging journal will be present on all three days of the fair FACHPACK TV live from the exhibition centre. Our presenters will report from a glass studio in Hall 4 and present interviews, panels and presentations on the latest developments in the packaging industry.
Visitors to the trade fair have the opportunity to be there live and see how the programmes are produced. All content will also be streamed on social media and will later be available in an online media centre.
Another centre of attraction is the Alternative packaging solutions„ pavilion“ in Hall 3, where 13 companies will be presenting their innovative and sustainable packaging solutions. These range from compostable film bags to packaging made from sugar cane. The SOLPACK 5.0 forum is also part of this pavilion and offers a varied programme of presentations by a total of 35 experts.
FACHPACK 2024 also offers an ideal platform for start-ups. Visitors will find the subsidised BMWK joint stand in Hall 2 „Young Innovators“ as well as the „Newcomer Pavilion“, where young, innovative companies and first-time exhibitors present their products and services.

For those interested in packaging design, the special show „Outside the Box“ in Hall 4 is a must. Organised by bayern design on behalf of FACHPACK, this exhibition shows the entire packaging design process. It illustrates how creative design contributes to the fulfilment of technical, ecological and economic requirements.
