The packaging manufacturer Faller Packaging has adapted its own portfolio to the challenges of the present. In line with the motto „Reduce, Recycle, Rethink“, label materials are reduced, recycling programmes are used and recyclable designs are created.
Following this approach Faller Packaging The company focusses on material savings in the production of its labels. The reduced use of materials for face and backing materials means that less material needs to be disposed of. This saves resources and transport and storage capacities can be better utilised.
According to the company, the functionality of more sustainable labels also takes centre stage. This must be given for the respective intended use. However, it is essential to ensure a recyclable combination of label, adhesive and container. As a general rule, the label should be made of the same type of material as the packaging material, as a single-origin material reduces the effort required for separation and reuse.
Thinking about the circular economy
However, a label does not only consist of the part that adheres to the product - when it is dispensed onto the packaging material, the backing material is left behind. Instead of disposing of this conventionally, customers can have it collected by an adhesive material supplier. The supplier returns it to the material cycle. EU standard-compliant transport and recycling can minimise CO2-emissions and conserve resources. The customer receives regularly updated analysis data and certificates for monitoring purposes. In addition, the company states that all waste from its own label production, such as mesh, trim and waste paper, is returned to the recycling loop.
Recycled materials play an important role in the circular economy. The higher their proportion, the less new material is required. Faller Packaging promotes their use and currently offers two labelling solutions made from recycled materialThe paper label made of so-called rPaper with normal paper grammage is suitable for glass, cardboard, PET, HDPE and LDPE in the temperature range from -40 to +70 degrees Celsius. Faller Packaging has developed the label made of recycled polyethylene (rPE) for dispensing on HDPE and LDPE in the temperature range from -20 to +80 degrees Celsius.
