Federal Minister Altmaier emphasises the importance of the packaging industry

Under the patronage of the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy, the German Packaging Award once again honours the best packaging solutions.

During the coronavirus crisis, companies in the packaging industry are ensuring that essential goods reach people and companies despite the pandemic.

Without the many innovations that the industry has developed in recent years, this achievement would be impossible. Services that the German Packaging Award under the Under the patronage of the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy on the big stage.

In a Greeting emphasises Federal Minister Peter Altmaier the importance of the packaging industry.

„The current coronavirus crisis has confirmed that German SMEs can be relied upon and the companies in the packaging industry are also making their contribution in this difficult economic situation. After all, packaging is an indispensable part of supplying the population with food and everyday goods. The majority of industry is dependent on a continuous supply of packaging material. A major challenge at present is to obtain the raw materials required for production. In this respect, the large Solidarity also impressive between companies.

Although the current situation is demanding a lot from companies, we should not lose sight of the topic of research and innovation. Because topics such as Sustainability, digitalisation and new technologies also occupy us in our response to crisis situations and, of course, far beyond. We want to anchor innovations here in Europe, to be able to respond appropriately to challenges in areas such as climate and environmental protection, but also to issues such as security of supply. The German Packaging Institute is awarding the packaging prize for the 43rd time this year. The innovations honoured in previous years show that Sustainability can be a real driver of innovation along the entire value chain, from recyclable materials to energy management and logistics.“

Companies from Germany and abroad have until 15 June 2020 to submit their best solutions across all materials and segments.
