Fernholz GmbH has developed a cup that uses a new type of cardboard with a recycled content of up to 90 per cent. As the cardboard can be detached from the inlet, the cup can be recycled by type.
According to the company, the plastic content of the new "Desto cup" can be reduced by 60 per cent compared to conventional cups. According to Fernholz, the Desto cup is first produced by wrapping a maximally thin plastic inlet with cardboard or paper up to the edge of the seal. Only this coating stabilises the cup despite the reduced plastic content. Fernholz produces the inlets from PP, PS, rPS, PET and RPET.
"The sustainable production of plastic packaging has been our leading topic for many years. Our new Desto cup is a unique result. It was important to our developers that the Easily detach the cardboard from the inlet can. This ensures that the materials are separated by type and recycled at all times," explains Uwe Fernholz, Managing Director of W. u. H. Fernholz GmbH & Co. KG.
