Etiket Schiller is gradually expanding its portfolio of labels made from environmentally friendly materials. This also includes labels made from grass paper, which is produced with a reduced use of water, energy and chemicals.

Sustainable packaging is becoming increasingly important to consumers. This is shown by a representative survey conducted by the German Packaging Institute (Deutsches Verpackungsinstitut e.V.), which found that 70 per cent of German citizens have already decided not to buy a product because the packaging was not sustainable enough.

Ecological extraction and recycling

The hay for the grass paper from Etiket Schiller's portfolio comes from of meadows in the Swabian Alb. While the eco-balance of pure pulp papers is reduced by the CO2-emissions, this is not the case with grass paper labels from local compensation areas. The hay is harvested from Meadows that are not suitable for fodder or food production but can therefore be put to economic use. The areas are also important for the preservation of biodiversity. Due to the low chemical load, the grass paper is also fully recyclable as waste paper and offers a sustainable alternative to plastic products.

Particularly environmentally friendly production

The material itself is obtained in a production process that with minimal amounts of water and very low energy consumption As grass fibres have a low lignin content, they can be processed completely mechanically. The mechanical pulping process Saves 97 per cent of energy and 99 per cent of waterwhich is otherwise used in pulp production. The regional availability in combination with the reduced logistical effort means that CO2-emissions by 75 per cent.
