Georg Baumeister is Head of the Global Palletising and Packaging Systems Division at BEUMER Group in Beckum. He has held this position since October 2015. The manager can look back on more than 20 years of experience in intralogistics.
pj: Mr Baumeister, what is BEUMER Group's current focus?
Gregor Baumeister: We are committed to Industry 4.0 and are actively shaping the change triggered by digitalisation. We network all the systems in a packaging line with each other and connect them to higher-level production control systems. End-to-end material and data tracking is ensured and relevant key figures can be monitored online. This opens up exciting opportunities for development. The basic prerequisite for digital transformation is close coordination with customers and their involvement. We are pursuing our strategy with this approach „Internal excellence for external success“.
pj: What particular challenges did you face last year?
Gregor Baumeister: As a full-service provider for Integrated packaging systems we are continuously developing. For example, we have developed and expanded our filling technology and, in the spirit of Industry 4.0 and digital change, we have also launched our BEUMER Overall Operation Monitoring app. We provide the customer with a complete solution from a single source.
pj: How do you assess the economic situation?
Gregor Baumeister: Positive! We feel the Growing market dynamics worldwide. More and more users are relying on our packaging technology. Our systems for consumer goods are becoming increasingly interesting: we are continuously expanding packaging lines into complete intralogistics solutions and equipping lines with standardised components such as conveyor technology or vehicle-based systems, various handling solutions and manipulators, such as robots.
pj: What effects do you expect for BEUMER?
Gregor Baumeister: We are well positioned and expect to achieve sustainable growth worldwide in 2018. Our aim is to continue to develop, particularly in the context of digitalisation, and to exploit the numerous positive opportunities that arise from this for ourselves and in the interests of our customers.
pj: What do you see as the most important tasks and trends in the industry?
Gregor Baumeister: Reliable and safe packaging is increasingly in demand in the industry. Users want to minimise rejects on the production lines and goods should arrive at customers and retailers in perfect condition. This involves transport security, theft protection, the display effect of the packaged products and protection from the weather during outdoor storage. We are in close contact with our customers and know what concerns them. We do not react, but set trends with our developments.
