According to the FKN, Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) is once again publishing false claims about drinks cartons as the EU packaging regulation comes into force.
Martin Schröder, Managing Director of the Fachverband Kartonverpackungen für flüssige Nahrungsmittel e.V. (FKN):
„Beverage cartons are far from being banned, even after the EU Packaging Regulation comes into force, because they have been highly recyclable since the opening of the Palurec Poly-Al recycling plant in 2021, according to recycling expert Dr Joachim Christiani. This means that the recyclability of beverage cartons is over 90 per cent. In addition, Saperatec is another recycling plant for the same material, which went into operation in 2024.
The DUH should the difference between recyclability and recycling rate will be familiar. The most recent figure for 2023 was 71 per cent - whereby both the Central Agency Packaging Register (ZSVR) and the Federal Environment Agency (UBA) announced at a joint press conference that they see the beverage carton industry's strong commitment to the further expansion of recycling plants in a positive light.“
