The Flexible Packaging Association (FPA) has presented its report „Economic Impact of the U.S. Flexible Packaging Industry“. According to the report, the industry generates 151.4 billion US dollars in total economic output and supports almost 400,000 jobs in the USA.
According to the FPA, flexible packaging - from pouches and films to wraps - is a key lever for efficiency in food, pharmaceutical and consumer goods supply chains. The overall calculation includes 98,420 direct industrial jobs, 155,520 jobs at suppliers and 144,840 induced jobs. In addition, there are wage and salary payments totalling USD 33.46 billion and tax revenue of USD 13.35 billion at federal, state and local level.
Impact along the value chain
According to the FPA analysis, the industry has an impact far beyond production: it involves raw material suppliers, logistics, design, financial and professional services in all US states. The organisation points to the material and weight advantages of flexible packaging materials, which reduce transport costs, extend shelf life and reduce material usage - factors that are reflected in the overall economic calculation.
Data access and context
The FPA makes the data sets of the 2025 report publicly available, including prepared key figures by state and congressional district. Companies planning investment or location decisions will find benchmarks on output, employment, wages and tax contributions of the sub-segments.
