Sustainability and the optimisation of packaging play an important role for the 80 member companies of Flexible Packaging Europe. Guido Aufdemkamp, Executive Director at Flexible Packaging Europe, provides insights into the industry and what is possible in terms of sustainability.
Flexible packaging impresses with its efficiency. Almost half of all fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) in Europe (excluding beverages) are protected by flexible packaging. At the same time, it only accounts for 17 per cent of the material required for FMCG packaging. In this way, flexible packaging saves resources, as only the absolutely necessary amount of material is used. This means that less material has to be recycled after use.
