Foldable box for sustainable vegetable transport

Tosca has developed a reusable, foldable plastic container for the Spanish export company Agromark, which replaces the rigid plastic boxes previously used and is specially designed for transporting broccoli.

The collapsible container with a customised base has been specially developed to protect the quality and freshness of the broccoli. Even when the container is filled to the brim, the upper layers of the broccoli remain undamaged. The Tosca solution ensures good ventilation, which significantly extends the product's shelf life and ensures that it reaches UK customers in good condition. As a result, Agromark has already seen a significant reduction in product waste and losses.

The collapsible container not only offers improved product preservation, but also cost savings and sustainability benefits. With a folded height of just 36.5 centimetres when empty, it optimises storage efficiency on return journeys. Agromark can now transport 104 more empty containers per lorry, a total of 182 foldable containers, compared to their previous solution with rigid containers. For the vegetable exporter, this means a 75 per cent reduction in return journeys.

In addition the collapsible containers are easy to repair and do not have to be thrown away and replaced in the event of damage.
