Karl Knauer develops environmentally friendly cardboard packaging made from cocoa shells for Kakao Mischa. The packaging combines sustainability with an exclusive design and dispenses with the usual PE coating.
Packaging specialist Karl Knauer has developed an innovative packaging solution for Kakao Mischa's high-quality cocoa products. The new packaging, which is made from the environmentally friendly cardboard material „Crush Cacao“, contains up to 15 % cocoa shells, a by-product of chocolate production.
Kakao Mischa, known for its high-quality cocoa varieties that are used for cocoa ceremonies, among other things, places great importance on sustainability and fairness in all aspects of production. This is also reflected in the new packaging developed by Karl Knauer. „Crush Cacao“ is an environmentally friendly cardboard box that integrates cocoa shells, a waste product of chocolate production. This environmentally friendly solution is rounded off by embossing in silver and gold, which emphasises the exclusive design of the packaging.
„We deliberately dispensed with the usual PE coating and instead used a sustainable coating that fulfils the strict hygiene regulations for direct contact with food,“ explains Michele Tamburello, Key Account Manager at Karl Knauer. Despite the more complex processing, this packaging ensures that the cocoa specialities can be packaged and shipped safely.
The new packaging comes in the form of small „treasure chests“ and is stackable, making it practical and space-saving to ship.
