Sales of beverage cans increased by 23 per cent in 2018 compared to the previous year. 3.51 billion of these products were consumed, reports the Beverage Can Forum.
The large increase in sales of 23 per cent shows that the Beverage can is accepted by retailers and consumers, reports the industry organisation. Beer lovers in particular are focussing on the beverage can, according to the annual sales figures. This is because 41.3 per cent of the containers sold were filled with barley juice.
„The popularity of the beverage can is unbroken. The combination of disposable and returnable has now been learnt by consumers and accepted as an alternative to reusable.“
Stephan Rösgen, Managing Director of Forum Getränkedose
Beverage cans are particularly easy to recycle
The Forum Beverage Can cites the advantages of the Packaging material, that it is good for eating on the go, that it is easy to chill and is handy and space-saving. The good Recyclability is added to this. With a recycling rate of 99 per cent, the beverage can is the most recycled product in Germany.
Beverage cans are made of permanent material that can be recycled almost indefinitely. The recycling of Aluminium consumes 95 per cent less energy than is needed to produce primary aluminium. 80 per cent of all metals ever produced are still in circulation today.
The producers of beverage cans also attached great importance to Resource efficiency. Around 35 percent less material is needed today for a 0.33-litre aluminium beverage can than at the beginning of the 1980s.
