GEA is already supplying the third freeze dryer for fruit and vegetables to the Turkish food manufacturer Pol's. This will increase the company's freeze-drying capacity from 200 to 300 tonnes per year. Commissioning of the new plant is scheduled for mid-2022.

The order includes the delivery and installation of another Ray 125 freeze dryer for the 4,000 m² fruit and vegetable freeze-drying plant of the company in Ermenek, Karaman, Turkey.

"We are the only company in Turkey that uses freeze-drying technology to market local crops and harvests. We chose GEA again because the freeze-drying systems are very reliable and operate at a high quality level."

Ali Polat, Chief Executive Officer of Pol's

Supporting sustainable agriculture

Pol's, which is part of the Muzaffer Polat Group, supports farmers in the region who grow a wide range of fruit and vegetables - from strawberries to apples, kiwis and peas. These are freeze-dried, processed and sold worldwide. The company offers complete monitoring of the entire freeze-drying process, from the harvesting of the fruit and its arrival at the factory to the storage and distribution of the packaged products.

The new Ray 125 freeze-drying system triples the size of the GEA production capacity since the installation of the first devices in 2017. The Ray 125 system is the second largest solution in the GEA range of freeze dryers. When processing fruit, it has a potential output of up to 460 kilograms per 24 hours.

The system is equipped with a fully automatic, continuous defrosting system that minimises energy consumption in the refrigeration plant and offers a high freeze-drying capacity per square metre of tray surface as well as a constant condenser capacity. The system enables Complete control of the drying cycle for each batch and is therefore particularly user-friendly.

For the customer the presence of GEA representatives an important aspect in Turkey.

"Our local experts will continue to work closely with Pol's in the future. This is particularly important given the geographical remoteness of the Ermenek site. Our experts know the area, can develop the best solutions and provide remote support in a timely manner. If necessary, we can be on site within a very short time."
