Forum Rezyklat is publishing an explanatory letter to accompany the German minimum standard for assessing the recyclability of packaging subject to system participation. It is intended to make the minimum standard easier to understand and eliminate any existing ambiguities.
The German minimum standard for assessing the recyclability of packaging subject to system participation is a key instrument for promoting a sustainable circular economy. The Central Agency Packaging Register (ZSVR) publishes this annually and thus provides a standardised framework for measuring recyclability, which is primarily aimed at the dual systems. The Minimum standard has also established itself as a standard within the industry for distributors and packaging manufacturers.
In order to support companies in its application, experts from Forum Rezyklat have developed an explanatory Cover letter. It is intended to make the minimum standard easier to understand and eliminate any existing ambiguities. Among other things, it will make it easier for companies to categorise packaging in the respective material fraction and to measure recyclability more quickly.
By summarising information that is listed in different places in the original document, the Forum Rezyklat cover letter provides detailed a clear and tangible presentation of the relevant content. The key points are summarised in a compact format using decision trees for classification into the relevant material fraction and a matrix for categorising the packaging as „non-recyclable“, „requires further testing“ or „recyclable“. This facilitates access to the information and thus promotes the recyclability of packaging.
The cover letter covers all important aspects of the minimum standard and provides Practical tips for testing the recyclability of packaging.
„It serves as a useful reference work and is intended to help companies make their packaging more efficient and environmentally friendly.“
Jonathan Scheck, Packaging Engineer „Made for Recycling”, Interzero Recycling Alliance
The document is now available to download on the website of the Recyclate Forum. After the Updating of the minimum standard by the ZSVR In September, Forum Rezyklat will also update the accompanying letter.
