German Packaging Award 2021: the Gold Award winners have been announced

From the group of winners of the German Packaging Award 2021, the jury selected a total of 15 „particularly pioneering innovations“, which were also honoured with the Gold Award.

Of this year's winners of the German Packaging Award, 13 companies based in Germany and one company each from Latvia and Switzerland were honoured with the exclusive Gold Award.

Last year, the winners were announced at an online event. This year, the traditional gathering took place again at Fachpack in Nuremberg. On the first day of the trade fair, not only the 52 winners of the German Packaging Award 2021 certificate and seal for their achievements. The jury of the German Packaging Award also selected from their circle 15 particularly pioneering innovations which were also honoured yesterday with the exclusive Gold Award.

Winfried Batzke, Managing Director of the German Packaging Institute (dvi) emphasised the Diversity of the innovations submitted and a strong field of participants overall. „Our jury really did a great and highly competent job here. In a two-day non-virtual meeting, they analysed and evaluated all the solutions on site. The Gold Awards are the golden tip of a massive push for innovation in packaging. Our industry shines!“

Werner & Mertz receives award for its rPET bottles

The Mainz-based detergent manufacturer Werner & Mertz has been honoured with the German Packaging Award 2021 in the Sustainability category for increasing the proportion of recyclate from the Yellow Bag to 50 % in its PET bottles made of 100 % used plastic. Together with cooperation partner ALPLA, the seemingly impossible was achieved in 2021 and the first bottles have been in use for the Frosch brand since March.
