The competition for the German Sustainability Award is starting for the 16th time. This year, the award is focussing on 100 sectors. The pioneers of sustainability in 100 sectors will be honoured and start-ups will also receive the Next Economy Awards for the ninth time.
This year, the foundation is honouring German Sustainability Award e.V. for the first time, the sustainability pioneers in 100 sectors of the German economy. Partners include the DIHK and the Federal Ministry for the Environment. The new competition is based on the previous most comprehensive AI-supported research of publicly available data on sustainability. Companies can also apply online with immediate effect. The prizes will be awarded on 23 November 2023 in Düsseldorf.

At the same time, however, the competences of the sustainable economy in Germany are also growing, and the awarding of the pioneers is intended to show how practical transformation works and to spread the best concepts from all sectors."

The Berlin-based start-up score4more provides the digital architecture for the AI-supported research across all industries and the resulting sustainability profiles of thousands of companies available. They are based on publicly available data from sustainability reports, ratings and indices. In addition, companies of all sizes can now apply online with their sustainability profiles by 19 May 2023.
The specially developed scoring system shows in each of the 100 sectors the Companies with the most effective contributions in the five transformation fields of climate, resources, nature, society and supply chain. Prof. Dr Stefan Schaltegger (Centre for Sustainable Management at the University of Lüneburg) is overseeing the process. 100 expert juries - made up of experts from associations, research, civil society and specialised consultancies - determine the top field, the pioneers in each sector. The assessment partner PwC Germany determines the best in the five transformation fields across all sectors from among all the winners. The jury of the DNP for companies selects the winners.
On 23 November 2023, the DNP will be presenting awards in Düsseldorf as part of the 16th German Sustainability Day the "big picture", a highly differentiated snapshot of the transformation in the German economy. The heads of the 100 industry winners accept their awards. Guests: top politicians, prominent laudators, guests of honour from business and society as well as around 100 media representatives.

The Hamburg-based company one.five develops packaging with the help of modern AI technologies, currently a paper-based barrier packaging for an organic spice manufacturer.

The EU winter package recognises the crisis in plastics recycling, but does not provide any immediate help, criticises the BDE and calls for binding „Made in Europe“ targets.

The new packaging is expected to replace more than 450,000 units of conventional disposable packaging.
