
Gerresheimer is expanding its production, supply and logistics capacities for glass vials in the USA with an investment of USD 94 million. The company is thus creating capacity for a new glass moulding line.
The project is supported by the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), part of the Office of the Assistant Secretary for Preparedness and Response (ASPR) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Defence (DOD). BARDA will Gerresheimer up to USD 66 million for this project. The Investment is part of the global expansion plan and the strategy process formula G of Gerresheimer.
Under the terms of the agreement, Gerresheimer will Annual production capacity at the plant in Morganton, North Carolina with type 1 vials (borosilicate glass and/or aluminosilicate) and Gx Elite Glass Vials increase. Funding from BARDA, with contractual support from DOD's Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear Defense (JPEO CBRND) and the Army Contracting Command (ACC), increases the capacity in the U.S. to provide rapid response to current vaccination campaigns against infectious diseasesincluding against Covid-19. The expansion of the plant will further strengthen the company's leading market position in elite glass surfaces.

As part of the expansion, the existing plant in North Carolina will be replaced by the Installation of new vial moulding line and a new warehouse expanded. In addition, new offices are planned to accommodate the growing number of employees.
