The site, where around 160 employees currently produce ampoules and injection vials, will thus become a central competence centre for high-value packaging solutions.

Gerresheimer is investing around 30 million euros in the expansion of its site in Wertheim. A new production hall for pre-sterilised ready-to-fill (RTF) injection vials in the EZ-fill Smart packaging platform is being built there. The official ground-breaking ceremony took place on 30 September 2025.

By mid-2027, high-quality RTF injection vials are to roll off the production line on 4,000 square metres. The site, where around 160 employees currently produce ampoules and injection vials, will thus become a central competence centre for high-value packaging solutions. Around 50 new jobs will be created for skilled workers from the region.

Second location for EZ-fill Smart in Europe

Wertheim will be the second Gerresheimer site alongside Querétaro (Mexico) to produce RTF vials in EZ-fill Smart packaging. According to CEO Dietmar Siemssen, the expansion shows how the company is realising its growth strategy in the biopharmaceuticals sector. Volker Rekowski, Senior Vice President Europe & Asia Tubular Glass, emphasises that EZ-fill Smart in combination with Gx Elite RTF vials offers maximum product protection for sensitive biopharmaceuticals.

Modern infrastructure and sustainability

The new production hall includes a GMP class C clean room for processing and packaging the vials. The infrastructure fulfils the strict requirements of the EU GMP guidelines. A 175 kWp photovoltaic system and a green roof are intended to ensure energy efficiency and sustainability. The site is powered entirely by electricity from renewable sources.
