Glass from the Czech Republic celebrates anniversary

Vetropack Moravia celebrates its 140th anniversary. The glassworks in Kyjov is one of the most modern in Europe and was founded in 1883.

Vetropack Group's Czech subsidiary, Vetropack Moravia, celebrates its 140th anniversary. The glassworks in Kyjov is one of the most modern and was founded in 1883. Today, the plant produces more than 700 tonnes of packaging glass a day.

Located around three hours south-east of the Czech capital Prague, Kyjov is not only the centre of regional folklore, but also home to one of the most modern production facilities for glass packaging in Europe. And this has been the case since the foundation stone was laid 140 years ago. With a daily production capacity of over 700 tonnes of packaging glass the Czech site has established itself as one of the most important glass packaging suppliers for Central Europe.

In addition to the anniversary celebrations Vetropack Moravia Glass, a.s. has made progress that underlines its commitment to innovation and sustainability. This year, a New, state-of-the-art furnace for the production of coloured glass was put into operation. The furnace offers increased capacity - it produces 400 tonnes of coloured glass per day compared to the previous 350 tonnes.

The conversion of the plant also extends to the cold end with new annealing furnaces and a coating of the cold end. Centrally controlled lines equipped with modern inspection technology improve fault detection and minimise downtimes. These changes improve production capacity and product quality and at the same time create a safe and ergonomic workplace for Vetropack employees.

The company also welcomes two new machines with fully servo-driven glass production technology.

„The NIS machine is one of the most flexible high-performance machines available on the market today. It significantly reduces energy consumption and ensures extremely precise control of the glass moulding process, improving both efficiency and capacity. The benefits of servo technology are many. We are proud to inaugurate these machines in Kyjov.“
