Globus Baumarkt relies on reusable plant trays. The reusable system aims to reduce plastic waste and increase efficiency along the supply chain.
Since February 2025, Globus Baumarkt has been using reusable plant trays for transporting plants across the board. The so-called reusable trays replace conventional disposable containers and are part of the company's more comprehensive sustainability strategy. The aim is to significantly reduce the amount of plastic waste and at the same time create ergonomic, practical solutions for everyday store and customer use.
The reusable system is the result of cooperation within Euro Plant Tray eG, an industry initiative for the standardisation of sustainable plant transport packaging at European level. Globus Baumarkt has been a member of the cooperative since 2022 and, according to its own information, is actively committed to the implementation of common environmental goals in the garden and plant segment.
Focus on durability and practical handling
The newly introduced plant trays are designed for a long service life and can be reused up to a hundred times. „The reusable plant trays are very robust and can also withstand a rough day at the DIY store,“ explains Lukasz Neumann, Purchasing Plants Manager at Globus Baumarkt. The handling has been extensively tested in test runs, including under practical conditions. According to the company, their ergonomic design not only makes them easier to transport, but also to return.
Customers have the option of taking the trays with them for a deposit and returning them after use. This not only makes transporting the plants safer, but also strengthens the circular economy. The reusability also reduces the consumption of resources and supports the objective of a closed packaging cycle, it continues.
