Demand is so high that capacities need to be expanded. Paper packager Graphic Packaging International is investing in new machines to be able to supply its PaperSeal trays in higher quantities.
How can the use of plastic packaging be significantly reduced? The food industry is increasingly focussing on packaging made from recycled cardboard with a barrier film solution. At US manufacturer Graphic Packaging International, this solution is called PaperSeal Tray. It is currently used by many household brands in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and other countries.
In order to meet demand in Europe, the company is now announcing investments at several locations in Europe and Australia. This year, PaperSeal production facilities will be installed in Ireland, Scotland, Spain, Greece and Australia as part of the expansion plans to supply new customers with trays.
Thanks to the PaperSeal tray and with the help of the heat-sealing process vacuum skin packaging (VSP) and modified atmosphere packaging (MAP), large retailers can pack their goods in a variety of applications, including fresh or processed meat, fish, cheese, salad and fruit. The tray also enables a high level of shelf differentiation compared to traditional VSP as it can be printed with high quality graphics.
