Last summer, Druckerei Heinen GmbH was due to receive a new Lesko converting machine with the support of Grafische Systeme. But things turned out differently, as the flood waters of the River Erft entered the print shop's premises. After extensive renovation, the machine was put into operation at the beginning of this year.
The history of the complex converting machine that Graphic systems has just been installed at Druckerei Heinen GmbH in Bad Münstereifel is a little longer than usual. It all started with an enquiry about The demand for multi-layer labels that was placed with the Heinen printing company and the desire to produce them in larger quantities in-house to be able to.
The decision was made to invest in a new converting machine that would have the greatest possible flexibility for the production of a wide variety of end products. Lesko wanted the machine to be modular with Flexo unit, laminating station, die-cutting unit and slitter configured to build.
Flood hits the print shop
The factory acceptance of the machine at Lesko took place on 13 July 2021 via video conference. 48 hours later, the situation was completely different. The catastrophic flooding of the River Erft had also reached the premises of the Heinen print shop, where there was no longer a functioning machine and the company building was also badly damaged. After this catastrophe, it was not possible to install the new converting machine for a long time, as an infrastructure - starting with the power supply - had to be put in place again first and a Extensive renovation of the rooms had to be carried out.
„After the catastrophic flooding on the night of 14-15 July 2021, which threatened our existence, we decided to restart our print shop after the initial shock and had to look for reliable partners to help us rebuild it.“
Jochem Heinen, Managing Director of Druckerei Heinen GmbH.
The machine was able to Lesko until production at the Heinen print shop is up and running again in the first few weeks of this year. The modern technology is to optimised for convenient and flexible work processes be realised. For this purpose, Graphic Systems of the Heinen print shop The Lundberg TrimCutter TC80 was connected to the converting machine for extracting and shredding the edge trims and another TrimCutter is ready for the new flexographic printing machine (expected to be installed in April).
All the required roll cores are cut as required using a semi-automatic core cutter. One Another Lesko converting machine for simple wrapping and slitting will be added in the future. In addition, Grafische Systeme Schischke will be supplying a digital plotter Duoblade WX 2 in a few weeks' time, which will enable the Heinen print shop to digitally produce small and medium-layer roll labels without having to make punching tools.
„We have found a reliable partner in Grafische Systeme Schischke. Above all, Mr Grundmann's encouraging and very good technical advice has helped us a lot. We are already looking forward to when all the machines are installed and we can finally start producing again ourselves.“
Jürgen Heinen, Managing Director of Druckerei Heinen GmbH
