Pohl-Scandia has now launched a new product series made from grass fibres. The GrassGreen shipping packaging is designed to meet the growing consumer demand for environmentally friendly shipping.

With GrassGreen shipping packaging, Pohl-Scandia is launching a new product series made from grass fibres. „With our new brand, we are offering the industry and retailers a Environmentally friendly and quickly available shipping system for standards, but also for customised products,“ explains Jürgen Müller, Sales Manager at the manufacturer of shipping packaging. This is in response to the growing consumer demand for environmentally friendly shipping.

Consumers demand protection of the environment

The new packaging concept has an image effect, as brand manufacturers and companies can use the look and feel of the packaging to communicate directly that they are acting in a visibly responsible and sustainable manner. More and more consumers expect sustainable shipping packaging. According to the latest Statista study „Sustainable Consumption 2021“, more than half (56 %) of respondents see sustainability as a reason to change their behaviour, and environmental protection is important to more than 65 percent.

According to another survey conducted by Simon-Kucher & Partners in March 2021, a total of 73 per cent of respondents in Germany attach importance to sustainable packaging. This consumer demand will also play an increasingly important role in online retail - the Share of sustainable and recyclable packaging solutions will increase.

The material contains up to 40 per cent grass, with the remainder consisting of waste paper. The packaging is 100 per cent recyclable and compostable. The properties of the grass material can be compared with other recycled cardboard boxes - the packaging, envelopes and shipping boxes offer the same level of protection and are therefore ideal for sending post and parcels. All packaging offers Efficient, secure self-adhesion, good product protection and a convenient tear-open aid.

Less CO2-emissions

Grass fibre is produced purely mechanically without chemical processing, causes significantly less CO2-emissions, requires hardly any water and very little energy. Raw materials are utilised efficiently during production: 1.2 tonnes of grass are turned into one tonne of fibre. For comparison: with conventional virgin fibre materials, 2.3 tonnes of wood are needed for one tonne of pulp.
