More and more companies are making it a priority to promote a circular economy with their products and implement environmentally friendly concepts. Consumer goods manufacturer Henkel, for example, has now launched a new bottle of toilet cleaner from its Pro Nature product line. This consists of 50 per cent recycled polyethylene (PE), which comes from household waste. Greiner Packaging is one of the packaging manufacturers that produces the sustainable Pro Nature bottle.
The new toilet cleaner bottle not only scores points for its practicality and ease of use, but also for its sustainable properties. It consists of 50% made from recycled polyethylene (r-PE) from household waste. A valuable contribution to a sustainable circular economy, which both Henkel and Greiner Packaging want to promote. For example, both companies have developed the „New Plastics Economy Global Commitment“ of the British Ellen MacArthur Foundation signed. Among other things, this aims to increase the use of recycled materials in packaging - such as the sustainable bottle of toilet cleaner from the Pro Nature range.
Step by step towards the cycle
Already In the previous year, the Bref brand toilet cleaner bottles were launched in a sustainable version. onto the market. Greiner Packaging also produces these. Black plastic packaging was a challenge due to the colouring agent previously used. Challenge for the recycling value chain They could not be correctly identified and sorted by the optical sensors of the waste sorting systems.
Together with its supplier Ampacet, Henkel has therefore implemented an innovative solution for black plastic packaging that is fully recyclable. The new packaging material is based on a alternative, soot-free black colourant. This allows sorting systems to categorise them correctly.
Joint commitment
„We want to help increase the use of recycled materials and bring recyclable packaging to the market. We are therefore naturally delighted with innovative and sustainable projects like Henkel's and are happy to support our partners at every stage of implementation. A genuine circular economy can only become a reality if everyone works together.“ Michael Frick, Global Key Account Director at Greiner Packaging
Also Abdullah Khan, responsible for the sustainability of packaging in the Laundry & Home Care division at Henkel, is delighted about the cooperation: „Henkel and Greiner Packaging have already been able to realise many sustainable packaging concepts together. Our new Pro Nature bottle is a good example of how we are realising Henkel's goal, to reduce the use of new materials from fossil sources by 50% by 2025."
