Schumacher Packaging is launching the innovative and environmentally friendly Halopack hybrid packaging for food - a development from the Netherlands - on the German and Polish markets later this year.
The Halopack innovation replaces the plastic trays commonly used in the meat sector, for example, with sturdy cardboard boxes that are hygienically lined on the inside with a thin, gas-tight plastic film.
Innovative hybrid packaging with drastically reduced plastic content
Through Halopack reduces the use of plastic by 70 to 90 per cent - This also applies to MAP protective gas packaging. The end customer can easily separate the ecological and marketing-effective hybrid packaging at home: The thin film simply goes into the yellow bin, while the cardboard tray is 100 per cent recyclable and goes into the waste paper. The Schumacher Packaging Group is the first licence holder for Halopack production in continental Europe. The German Production start is scheduled for Q4/2019 planned.
An ecological and functional improvement
Special machines are required to produce the innovative Halopack hybrid packaging.

„In the first stage, we will be able to produce 10 to 30 million trays a year on one or two machines. We see Halopack as an important opportunity to address a pressing ecological issue with a solution that is both innovative and pragmatic. Halopack Reduces the use of plastic to the absolute minimum necessary for perishable foods, without compromising hygiene or shelf life.
On the contrary: Halopack protects food even better from environmental influences and creates a more reliable grease and moisture barrier than conventional PP-PE or PET trays. Halopack is a very clever idea from the Netherlands that fits in perfectly with our self-image as an environmentally conscious packaging manufacturer.“

Innovation partners pulling in the same direction
Also from the perspective of the Dutch inventor Schumacher Packaging is the ideal partner as a licence holder for Germany and Poland.
„It is no coincidence that Schumacher Packaging is one of the industry's innovation and technology leaders. We are convinced that the company's broad presence in Germany and Poland and its excellent reputation will further boost demand for our innovative Halopack solution. The market is ready for it.“
Remi de Olde, partner of Halopack N.V. in Almelo
Cardboard saves plastic
As the first completely gas-tight MAP packaging made predominantly from cardboard, Halopack not only ensures an excellent shelf life for food - the hybrid packaging can even be heated in the microwave or oven without any problems. Freezing the food directly in the packaging is also completely safe. Even resealability is an option with Halopack.

The owner-managed, medium-sized company has been one of the productivity and technology leaders in the packaging industry for many years. An important strategic advantage is that Schumacher Packaging combines a broad European market presence with uniformly high standards of technology, quality and service at all locations. [/infotext]„Halopack not only has great functional advantages, the marketing impact of such environmentally conscious packaging is also enormous. Many consumers today are sensitised and specifically choose ecological packaging. We can also print on the cardboard tray as desired, even on the inside. This is because the thin, transparent film prevents any contact with the food inside. Instructions on how easy it is to dismantle and dispose of the hybrid packaging are also printed on the tray.
We use a wide variety of solid board qualities as materials, whether made from primary or recycled fibre, coated or uncoated, glossy or matt. Particularly attractive in this context is, of course, our special eco line“We manufacture this cardboard with a matt surface in brown, grey or white - and exclusively from recycled material."
