This year's Lumene cosmetics advent calendar was realised in collaboration with the Finnish cardboard manufacturer Metsä Board and the packaging manufacturer Van Genechten Packaging.
The Advent calendar is characterised by its multi-dimensional structure and is made entirely of folding boxboard from Metsä Board. After Christmas it can be disposed of and recycled in the paper and cardboard stream be. The calendar was designed in virtual workshops, which Metsä Board organised together with the cosmetics manufacturer Lumene and the team from Van Genechten Packaging in Riga. The aim of the collaboration was to design a calendar that fits the brand, draws inspiration from Finnish nature and enhances the consumer experience.
The exterior aims to capture the beauty of the Nordic landscape: The 3D embossing on the surface of the calendar gives the frozen flowers in the illustration a tactile feel. In addition, the translucent holographic film a magical sparkle that gives the calendar a festive look.

„This year's cosmetics calendar from Lumene has several dimensions. The calendar section with the product packaging is hidden in an outer packaging that is closed by a separate sleeve. The concept forms a three-dimensional unit, both in terms of structure and graphics. The doors of the Advent calendar also consist of differently shaped boxes that form a floral pattern.“
Iiro Numminen, packaging designer in the packaging design team at Metsä Board.
The calendar is made from MetsäBoard Prime FBB Bright and MetsäBoard Pro FBB Bright folding boxboard. Both qualities consist of made from renewable wood fibres and are easy to recycle. The good surface smoothness and high brightness of the cardboard ensure that the winter landscape is shown to its best advantage both on the outer packaging of the calendar and on the protective cover.
