Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG has concluded a far-reaching agreement with companies of the Polar Group: The company is acquiring the technology, intellectual property and trademark rights of its long-standing partner Polar Mohr. The transaction is expected to be finalised in the coming weeks.
With this acquisition, Heidelberg has secured the exclusive worldwide distribution, service and marketing rights for Polar Mohr's postpress systems. The aim is to, strengthen the solution portfolio, particularly in the area of packaging and labelling production - a fast-growing market with potential, particularly in Asia, South America and the Middle East.
„Heidelberg aims to achieve targeted growth in attractive market segments through M&A activities. With this acquisition, we are emphasising our claim to be a full-range supplier for our customers in the packaging and label industry, including service, and securing exclusivity in a growing market. As a system integrator, we cover the entire value chain of a packaging print shop, fully integrated and networked for highly productive production. The systems from Polar Mohr play an important role in this.“
Jürgen Otto, Chairman of the Management Board of Heidelberg
This takes the partnership between Heidelberg and Polar Mohr, which has proven itself over decades, to a new level. While Polar Mohr will continue to act as developer and manufacturer, Heidelberg will take over exclusive sales and service on a global level. The focus is on automation, digitalisation and workflow integration along the entire value chain.

SOL Capital, owner of the Polar Group, also sees the closer cooperation as a logical and forward-looking step. Dr Paul Niederkofler, Managing Partner at SOL Capital Management: „The transaction will sustainably strengthen Heidelberg's market position in the postpress, label and packaging market. Polar Mohr can therefore concentrate fully on its core competences as a developer and manufacturer."
The parties have agreed not to disclose the financial details of the transaction.
