Digital integration and a world premiere. Printing press manufacturer Heidelberg is expanding its overall portfolio for folding carton production.

The trends in packaging printing are clear: ever shorter runs and more packaging variants, as well as more finishes to attract attention at the point of sale, all with the shortest possible delivery times. The complexity is increased by special colours and the demand for error-free production.

How can folding carton printers achieve this economically? How can they fully utilise the potential of their machines and achieve transparent and traceable production? The Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG are now presenting their innovations.

Automation and digitalisation increase productivity

The new operating concept with the Heidelberg User Experience UX makes packaging printing easier than ever, in all format classes. One example is the Speedmaster CX 102, a press that incorporates innovative solutions from the Peak Performance class and is equipped with the new operating concept. The operator is guided through the individual processes via the Wallscreen XL. With Intellistart 3 up to 50 job changes can be prepared on the machine during ongoing production. Intelliguide guides you through the change and always shows the quickest way to set up. Intelliline visualises which process phase the individual printing and coating units are in and when manual intervention is required. Assistance systems such as Colour Assistant Pro and Wash Assistant utilise artificial intelligence for continuous improvement.

New punch celebrates its world premiere

At the event, visitors were able to experience the world premiere of the new high-performance Mastermatrix 106 CSB die-cutter, which, with a production speed of 9,000 sheets per hour, stands for top performance in finishing. The machine is equipped with many features for speed in production and set-up: For example, set-up time is reduced by a new quick clamping system for the die-cutting plate without affecting tool compatibility with existing plates. The set-up time is further minimised by MasterRake: The non-stop swords in the delivery are pneumatically fixed and can be released and moved by the operator at the touch of a button. This reduces the set-up time at the delivery by up to 70 per cent.

Customised solutions in the packaging segment

Heidelberg offers innovative and customised solutions for customer requirements in the packaging segment: From the job and production data to the finished folding carton. The Prinect workflow connects the various machines and processes and enables navigated, ideally even autonomous folding carton production. The optimally coordinated consumables from the Saphira family and digital services ensure a stable production environment and maximum machine availability.
