While the German mechanical engineering sector will record a drop in orders in 2024, Herma's mechanical engineering division will grow by over six per cent - driven by new technologies, export markets and increasing service requirements.

Herma GmbH, based in Filderstadt, successfully decoupled itself from the downward trend in the German mechanical engineering sector in 2024. While orders in the mechanical and plant engineering sector fell by around 8 % according to the VDMA, Herma's mechanical engineering division recorded an increase in turnover of a good 6 % to 62.9 million euros.

„We continued to grow in the first quarter of 2025,“ explains Martin Kühl, Business Unit Manager Machines at Herma. The company is thus continuing on its long-term growth path despite difficult market conditions.

New technologies and global presence as success factors

Herma attributes this growth in particular to the development of new market segments, the expansion of international activities and investments in complementary labelling technologies, such as robotics. Automated labelling for complex packaging and product formats is becoming increasingly relevant - particularly in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and logistics sectors.

The 50,000th Herma labeller was produced in 2024. As the device base grows, so does the need for customised service packages, preventive maintenance and digital remote maintenance modules. Herma is responding to this with a targeted expansion of its service departments, particularly in the areas of after-sales and maintenance.

Investment in personnel and future viability

Herma is currently one of the few mechanical engineering companies in Germany that is expanding its core workforce. In addition to positions in the service area, new jobs are also being created in technology and product development.
