Automated storage systems are under pressure: rising handling volumes, high energy prices and new regulatory requirements are increasing the demands on technology and operation. For its appearance at LogiMAT 2026, Westfalia Technologies is focusing on integrated systems that combine availability, safety and modernisability.
Westfalia Technologies realises automated storage systems as integrated complete solutions. According to the company, storage technology, electromechanics, control systems and software are closely harmonised. Central components are produced in-house and are combined to create customised systems for different products, load carriers and temperature zones.
The aim is to reduce interfaces and thus minimise potential sources of error. The focus is on long-term high system availability as well as investment and production security.
Multi-deep storage with satellite technology
A core component is the satellite technology for multi-deep storage that has been in use for many years. It enables a compact storage design and high storage space density. Special rail profiles in the storage channels are designed to support material-friendly movements and extend the service life of pallets.
The warehouse execution system Savanna.NET controls the processes. It integrates manual, semi-automated and automated areas and coordinates material flows and warehouse management. According to the provider, this allows both new buildings and established inventory structures to be integrated.
Modernisation and regulatory requirements
In addition to new systems, the modernisation of existing systems is becoming increasingly important. The replacement of older storage and retrieval machines, gradual software updates and additional services are intended to extend the life cycle of systems.
At the same time, the company is preparing its systems for the EU Machinery Directive, which will come into force in January 2027, and is addressing requirements from the NIS 2 Directive. For data backup and backup strategies, Westfalia refers to cloud solutions within the Wortmann Group.
