Printer specialist HP will be showcasing its new HP PageWide C550 Press high-speed digital printing system at the upcoming CCE International. The system should be available for installation later this year.

The C550 is based on the technology of the C500 and uses thermal inkjet technology and water-based inks to deliver consistent offset print quality at high production speeds, according to the manufacturer. With a print speed of 90 metres per minute, the C550 is able to produce high-quality flexo and litho cartons at a constant speed, without becoming slower. It also helps converters to optimise their stock levels, reduce obsolescence and speed up turnaround times through digital printing technology.

Installation still in 2023

David Tomer, General Manager of HP Post-Print Corrugated Solutions: „HP continues to invest in the packaging market. We are creating new opportunities for packaging converters and brands to benefit from the analogue to digital transformation. We are delighted to be able to deliver the C550 to the corrugated industry. It builds on the success of the C500 and enables converters to produce flexo and litho cartons economically at high speeds without slowing down the C550. We are continuously working on innovative solutions that not only improve stability after printing and the productivity of processors, but also fulfil the quality and flexibility requirements of brands for packaging.“

The new HP PageWide C550 Press will be available for installation later this year. It runs at a constant speed of 90 metres per minute and delivers outstanding print quality. It supports increased production capacity and at the same time reduces the production costs of corrugated board packaging.

HP has also worked with Hybrid Software to develop a prepress workflow for packaging that simplifies the transition of artwork from litho and flexo print formats. Hybrid PackZ offers a mixture of automated actions and special prepress tools. The PDF editor prepares designs for each printing process by enriching them with priming and finishing separation, controlling colour sets and object-based screening and trapping, and creating dynamic marks and panels.
