Hugo Beck has optimised the packaging process of a manufacturer of instant noodle dishes by using a servo X packaging line: The manufacturer of ready meals now triples its packaging capacity compared to the previous system.
In the fast-paced world of ready meals production, speed and reliability are crucial. A food manufacturer, whose previous side-seal packaging system was becoming increasingly unreliable, was looking for a solution that could better meet the requirements of high production capacities could be realised. The new packaging line, which fed by an automatic cup filling system had to be able to cope with the high throughput of the technical environment.
After contacting Hugo Beck's UK distribution partner, Yorkshire Packaging Systems (YPS), the company received a servo-controlled servo X side-sealing machine together with a double-chamber shrink tunnel. With the integration of the double chamber shrink tunnel, the servo X packaging machine enables a potential throughput of up to 10,000 cycles per hour to easily handle the desired number of ready meals. This speed results from the Combination of servomotor and continuously operating transverse welding, which moves with the product and thus avoids a stop-and-go procedure that would slow down the process.

Vacuum belts also help to increase the process speed and at the same time ensure tighter packaging of the product. A special feature of the servo X is the execution of the side weld before the transverse weld - a decisive factor for tighter packaging. Precisely fitting, film-efficient packaging not only improves the visual appearance, as less film needs to be shrunk, but also lead to considerable material savings. In comparison with similar, competing packaging systems, this type of machine has demonstrated an average film saving of around 15 per cent, which contributes directly to achieving the company's sustainability goals.
In addition, the servo X Now an ultra-thin film is processed, which was recommended and supplied by YPS. The material is considered the thinnest on the market and can be supplied with a recycled content of 30 per cent, which brings further sustainability benefits. For the customer, this change reduced the material thickness from 35 µm to 12.5 µm without compromising performance in any way. The result is a Plastic savings of around 64 per cent.
With the new packaging line, the manufacturer of ready meals achieves tripling its packaging capacity compared to the previous system.
„This joint project with our distribution partner YPS underlines our commitment to modern packaging solutions that promote efficiency and sustainability in the food industry - in this particular case in the highly competitive ready meals market, where speed is of the essence.“
