Every three years, Munich becomes the venue for the world's leading trade fair for the bakery, confectionery and snack trade. This year it's that time again: from 15 to 20 September 2018, „iba 2018“ will attract tens of thousands of trade visitors to the Munich exhibition grounds.
Everything that Food producers and Catering businesses in the bakery and confectionery trade will be on show at iba 2018: Raw materials, ingredients, baking agents and semi-finished products, as well as production technology, process optimisation, small and large machines, IT systems and complete interiors for sales outlets.
Twelve halls at the Munich exhibition centre the iba 2018 prove it. More than 1,100 exhibiting companies from 50 countries are expected to attend. The trade fair claims to provide an almost complete overview of what's new in the industry. That is why the organisers are expecting at least the same number of visitors as the previous iba in 2015, when 77,814 trade visitors came to iba.
Digitalisation will be one of the key topics

The industry will have to adjust to a number of changes compared to iba 2015. These include, among other things, the obligation to issue receipts in Germany from 2015 and the Novel Food Regulation, changing consumer habits, the demand for sustainable packaging and the whole area of digitalisation.
The topic Digitisation is one of the focal points of the trade fair. Exhibitors will be showing, among other things Software solutions for production, product range and deployment planning. Digital demand analyses and forecasts are now even possible.
Computer-aided solutions continue to find their way into the sales areas. Both sales staff and customers benefit from touch panels that provide price information and offer additional information. Cashless payment by card or smartphone is also becoming increasingly important.

Special areas for snacks and packaging solutions
New to the trade fair concept will be central areas for snacks, packaging and a virtual world of experience. Snacks and beverage concepts, including the associated process chain, will be presented in the special area „iba.TO GO!“ in Hall B3. Packaging solutions and processes will again be presented in Hall B1 under the heading „iba.OPERATE!“ summarised. The world's most important players in the baking industry can be experienced virtually in Hall B3. With the help of virtual reality goggles and 360-degree videos, visitors can gain insights into bakeries from Germany, Greece, Iceland, Austria and the USA.
Industry trends are presented at the „iba.FORUM“ in Hall B3. The „Speakers Corner“ will be set up in Hall A1 for the first time. This is where experts and visitors can exchange ideas on topics from science and practice.

iba is the trade fair organised by the German Bakers„ Association. It is organised by GHM Gesellschaft für Handwerksmessen mbH from Munich. It was agreed at the previous iba in 2015 that this would remain the case until at least 2030. The association also uses the trade fair to promote young talent. The international “iba-UIBC Cup of Bakers" for bakers and the UIBC Junior World Championship for young confectioners will also take place at iba.
