The ICPP International Confederation of Plastics Packaging Manufacturers is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The association was founded in 1997 with the aim of creating better framework conditions for the international transport of hazardous goods in plastic containers.
The work of the ICPP focuses primarily on Regulatory aspects of dangerous goods transport, international standards and environmental aspects.
ICPP President Jerry Geyer (Greif Inc., USA) drew a positive balance at this year's General Assembly on 8 May 2017: „Over the past 20 years, the association has made a significant contribution to increasing safety in the transport of dangerous goods. The fact that numerous ICPP applications have found their way into the international set of rules, the UN Model Regulations, is due to the united approach of the industry and the combined expertise within the organisation.“
An important component of the work of the Consultative status with the United Nations The main focus of the accredited ICPP is regular participation in the meetings of the UN Sub-Committee of Experts on the Transport of Dangerous Goods in Geneva. The activities always focus on a high level of practical relevance in order to facilitate the safe handling of dangerous goods packaging with the help of globally accessible guidelines and standardised information.
For interpack in May 2107, ICPP published the guidelines on handling dimensionally stable plastic packaging developed by the IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen, which will be used worldwide, as will the two previously published FAQs on handling IBCs and FIBCs.
