Karl Knauer wins gold in Berlin. The packaging expert from the Black Forest has now been honoured with the iF Design Award 2024 Gold for his innovative packaging for the premium beer brand Stella Artois.

In its statement, the 132-member jury said that the high-quality (closed) box containing the twelve 0.33 litre bottles from the ABInBev brewery group was „perhaps the greatest innovation in drinks packaging since the six-pack“.

Like six-packs, the Stella Artois packaging is made entirely from cardboard and is therefore produced from sustainable material that can be easily recycled in the paper bin. But that's where the similarities with the standard carrier systems used in the beverage trade end. The new, elegant Stella Artois sleeve features with rounded corners and an elaborate paint finish The new premium brand is the perfect counterpart for the premium brand.

If you take the carton off the shelf, you will see a second, innovative detail for which the packaging developers at Karl Knauer have already been honoured with the German Design Award 2024: the telescopic handle, which does not require plastic reinforcement straps and makes access and transport particularly easy and convenient. Once the twelve small bottles have arrived safely at their destination, you can look forward to an extraordinary unboxing experience: the packaging can be opened and closed. Easily split in half along a 360-degree perforation and the lower section can be transformed into a tray in an instant by sliding the integrated side flaps inwards.

For the long-established company Karl Knauer, it was already the 9th award with the coveted iF Award. This makes the Black Forest company one of the regulars at the awards ceremony, where only 75 of the almost 11,000 competition entries were honoured with a gold award.
