
After a break due to the pandemic, IPACK-IMA will take place again in Milan in May. Visitors will be offered a wide range of processing technologies, packaging solutions and materials. There will also be the opportunity to exchange ideas and make new contacts. Valerio Soli, President of Ipack Ima Srl, sees the trade fair as an „incubator of ideas“.
From 3 to 6 May 2022, the IPACK-IMA parallel to the Pharmintech in Milan. Four years after the last edition of the trade fair and numerous changes and developments in the industry's production processes exhibitors present their innovations. Because despite the long break, developments in the packaging sector never stood still, emphasises Valerio Soli.
Wide range of exhibitions
At the trade fair for processing and packaging technologies for the food and non-food sector, the Food and beverage industry remains a key market. Four business communities are therefore dedicated to this sector: from pasta and milling - the core area of the event - to liquid foods and beverages, fresh foods and ready meals, as well as the technological requirements of the entire confectionery world.
But the sector Non-food takes centre stage at this year's IPACK-IMA. In particular, the pharmaceuticals and nutrition, beauty and personal care, chemicals and household care as well as industrial and consumer goods sectors are covered at the trade fair.
The product ranges presented at the trade fair are just as numerous, including Innovative packaging solutions and processing technologies. The latter have become particularly important and complete the range alongside labelling and traceability technologies, end-of-line and protective packaging solutions for all production areas.
Impact of the pandemic on the industry
During the pandemic, the packaging industry has also had to respond to new rules and measures. Valerio Soli categorises the changes and effects:
„2021 was a year of great change for the entire packaging industry. Unprecedented high raw material prices and a shortage of components have led to unexpected challenges. However, it was also a year full of opportunities. The Ability of packaging to preserve the flavour, aroma and integrity of products over long periods of time was rediscovered. Above all the SThe safety of the packaging, which prevents possible contamination during handling, was appreciated. The developments in the area of Sustainability is also becoming an important issue for the industry, “This is an important topic, especially for material manufacturers who have invested heavily in environmentally friendly research and development in response to brand owners' commitments to the circular economy. These are all topics that have become an integral part of the packaging sector and will be fully addressed at IPACK-IMA."
Sustainability as a topic in the packaging industry
Sustainability also plays an important role for exhibitors and customers at IPACK-IMA. Particularly affected are Packaging materials and the requirements for product protection. Exhibitors will be presenting their solutions specifically on this topic at the IPACK-Mat. It is the brand of IPACK-IMA, which makes it easy to identify companies that offer innovative and environmentally friendly materials in a special area in Hall 5.
Since Product safety and preservation play an important role in this context IPACK-IMA has set up the special Ipack-Ima Lab area in cooperation with the Italian Packaging Institute. In addition, the IPACK-IMA Host of the international „Packaging Speaks Green“ forum“,which was developed by Pack-Media with the support of Ucima and deals with sustainability in the packaging supply chain.
Safety in times of the pandemic
Of course, IPACK-IMA had to put safety precautions in place to protect visitors and exhibitors during the pandemic. Valerio Soli emphasises that the Presence ensured by special protocols will be.
