Mettler-Toledo introduces X34C, a new x-ray inspection system specifically designed for contaminant detection in small, individually wrapped snacks and confectionery at high production speeds. It enables cost-efficient inspection immediately after flow-wrapping or sealing of individual products.
The compact X34C X-ray inspection system only requires a footprint of 700 millimetres in length and has an integrated ejection mechanism. The system also supports operation at belt speeds of up to 120 metres per minute.
According to the company, this makes it possible for the first time to X-ray inspection to match the high speeds of many flow-wrapping and sealing machines, which are used in the confectionery industry for packaging individual products.
Inspection of individually wrapped bars
The optimised focus distance of the X-ray detector's 0.4-millimetre diode in conjunction with the 100-watt optimum power generator increase detection accuracy even with very small foreign bodies and at the same time reduce the false reject rate. Thanks to the combination of power and X-ray contrast, which is customised to each application, power savings are achieved as the X34C system does not have to be operated continuously at 100 watts maximum power.
„I am sure that manufacturers of smaller snacks and confectionery will quickly recognise the benefits of high-speed product inspection with X34C. Costs can be reduced as individually wrapped bars are inspected and, if necessary, ejected directly after leaving the flow wrapping machine instead of entire sales units. At the same time, the manufacturer can maintain a high product throughput at this critical point in its production line.“
Mike Pipe, Head of Global Sales & Product Management at Mettler-Toledo Product inspection
The X34C X-ray inspection system also supports the Mettler-Toledo ProdX data management software. Food manufacturers can use it to drive forward the digitalisation of their supply chain, digitally document compliance requirements and optimise the traceability of their products.
