Emirates Biotech is launching with an internationally experienced management team. The new company, based in Dubai, aims to become a leading player in the PLA (polylactic acid) biopolymer industry.
The company has appointed Marc Verbruggen as CEO, François de Bie as Chief Commercial Officer, Aman Kulshrestha as Chief Technology Officer and Margrete L. Wie as Chief Financial Officer. Emirates Biotech is a joint venture between the investment group SS Royal Kit Emirates Investment and the Hong Kong-based company Global Biopolymers Industries. Production and commercialisation of PLA biopolymers throughout the Middle East, Africa and India drive forward. The company plans to start commercial operations at the beginning of 2025 and plans to start construction of the first PLA production plant in the United Arab Emirates before 2026.
Marc Verbruggen has many years of experience in the bioplastics sector and was previously as CEO of NatureWorks active. Under his leadership, NatureWorks became a global provider of bio-based polymer solutions, doubling its production capacity and building a solid international customer base. His strategic direction will be crucial in helping Emirates Biotech through the dynamic landscape of the biopolymer market to navigate, according to the company.
François de Bie has extensive experience in business development and marketing in the plastics industry. As former Senior Marketing Director at TotalEnergies Corbion and Former President of European Bioplastics he has played an important role in promoting the global acceptance of biopolymers. His commercial expertise will be instrumental in driving Emirates Biotech's regional sales and marketing strategy.
With more than 12 years of experience in biopolymers, Aman Kulshrestha is a recognised expert in production, applications of biopolymers and recycling technologies. Through her Activities at NatureWorks and Sulzer It has the necessary capabilities to oversee Emirates Biotech's technological advances and ensure the production of high-quality PLA biopolymers that fulfil the requirements of various industries.
Margrete L. Wie has been appointed Head of Finance to lead the financial operations of Emirates Biotech. She has a Track record in financial and strategic management complex technology sectors, both in the start-up and corporate world.
