With GaBi Packaging CalculatoR+, companies can now quickly and comprehensively analyse the environmental impact of packaging - from production to transport and recycling.
The Environmental services provider Interseroh and the provider of EHS and product stewardship solutions, Sphera, have the new online tool developed to optimise the sustainability of packaging.
„Beyond recycling, we are also committed to more environmentally friendly packaging and the avoidance of climate-damaging emissions. The new, Intuitive configurator creates greater transparency and provides manufacturers with a good basis for making decisions to improve packaging design across the board,“ says Markus Müller-Drexel, Managing Director of Interseroh Dienstleistungs GmbH.
The online tool is based on a parameterised Model from Sphera, which maps the life cycle of packaging and provides a Variety of environmental data on materials and manufacturing processes.
„With the GaBi Packaging Calculator, we have developed a Intuitive web tool which provides a fact-based decision-making basis for more sustainable packaging design. The aspect of recyclability has so far been neglected - especially in light of the Packaging Act in Germany,“ explains Sophie Kieselbach, Senior Consultant at Sphera.
This is where the expertise of the Recycling specialists Interseroh in. With „Made for recycling“ the company offers a scientifically based evaluation method to analyse the recyclability of packaging in the laboratory. The Interseroh service based on this method „Check for Recycling“ enables the customers to simple online test to find out for themselves how well their product packaging can be collected separately, sorted and recycled into new products.
„Our collaboration allows users to use a single tool to create life cycle assessments of packaging, determine its recyclability and compare design alternatives in terms of their different environmental impacts,“ says Sophie Kieselbach.
Simply select materials and processes, enter product specifications, define transport routes and generate the report: Users can obtain meaningful data in just a few steps. This gives Safety with regard to the Packaging Act - and provides companies with convincing sales arguments.
