Thimm has invested 10 million euros in the expansion of its plant in Tychy, Poland. The company installed a further processing machine and expanded the area with new halls.
With a total investment volume of 10 million euros, the plant was massively expanded in 2023. „With our investment programme, we are pursuing the goal of increasing the Expand production capacities. The focus is clearly on the requirements of our customers - we want to grow together with them, including in the Eastern European market,“ explains CEO Kornelius Thimm. The expansion of the Polish plant in Tychy is also an important step in this direction. The implementation of the new 16/28 HBL production line from Göpfert not only increases processing capacity at the plant, but also improves efficiency, quality and occupational safety. Around The new line produces 10,000 sheets per hour. This will increase the capacity of the Tychy plant from 130 to 165 million square metres of corrugated board per year.
The system, which can also handle large formats up to a width of 2.80 metres, is particularly suitable for processing pre-printed corrugated cardboard sheets. Kornelius Thimm emphasises: „The System supports our focus on digital printing at THIMM by efficiently enabling the processing of digital preprint and at the same time fulfilling the quality requirements of customers in terms of punching accuracy.“ A register unit with a Preprint Control camera system ensures the highest product quality: The system provides the ensures perfect alignment and position of each individual sheet and recognises faulty sheets, which are ejected directly. The two integrated inking units also enable single and two-colour printing on the packaging.
Parallel working
The new line was set up parallel to an existing production line in the factory as an effective mirror concept. „The operator sides of both production lines are directly opposite each other so that the teams at the machines can easily communicate with each other,“ says Kornelius Thimm, explaining the advantages of the concept. The advanced technology of the new line enables the Efficient pre-setting of printing units and cutting dies during ongoing production. „This significantly reduces set-up times when changing orders, which leads to more efficient processing and shorter delivery times for our customers,“ continues Thimm. At the same time, the system offers a considerable increase in comfort and safety for the operating personnel, as the mould change can be carried out from the floor.
Before the new production line could be put into operation in summer 2023, extensive peripheral work was carried out at the plant. This included installing the necessary connections, upgrading the parallel production line and uninstalling a flatbed die-cutter, which was successfully integrated into the new production line. Thimm-plant in Skarbimierz was relocated. The aim of this measure is to capacities at the plant and to expand the machine portfolio.
The Tychy site also Two new halls builtOne with 1,300 square metres for the storage of corrugated cardboard in order to improve production planning and shorten delivery times. The second hall with 1,800 square metres will house a gluing centre to expand capacity for e-commerce packaging. The next step will be to expand the plant's output through the Expansion of automation in interim storage and intralogistics further optimised to speed up processes.
„The new production line is an important and forward-looking addition to our machinery in Tychy. Thanks to the prudent planning and the great commitment of our employees, there was no disruption to the rest of production during the conversion phase. The expansion of the plant is an important step in the development plan - not only for the plant, but for Thimm's overall growth. As a result, our customers will benefit from a wider range of high-quality products that are available quickly and meet their requirements even better.“
