Glashütte Freital GmbH is reorganising itself as part of debtor-in-possession proceedings. The aim is a sustainable reorganisation and the preservation of the traditional company as a manufacturer of glass containers.
Glashütte Freital GmbH is using judicial self-administration proceedings to restructure its company. After the Dresden Local Court granted the corresponding application on 5 March 2025, the proceedings were officially opened on 30 April 2025. The restructuring manager is the lawyer Matthias Rönsch from the law firm Wolff Rapp Rechtsanwälte.
The company had fallen into financial difficulties, mainly due to a sharp rise in energy and raw material prices and a decline in order volumes. The aim of the proceedings was to secure the business in the long term.
Ongoing operations and support from the workforce
„Business operations are continuing in a stable manner. The company has a healthy core and therefore ideal conditions to ensure the sustainable continuation of the business,“ explains Matthias Rönsch, Managing Director of the reorganisation.
Investor process initiated - international talks underway
A structured, international investor process has been initiated to support the restructuring programme. This is supported by Simon Leopold, Managing Director of ABG Consulting-Partner GmbH & Co. KG, accompanied. Initial talks with potential investors are already underway, according to reports.
According to Leopold, the Freital glassworks offers considerable potential for growth: a second furnace could be put into operation in the short term and production capacity could be significantly increased. There is also potential for expansion on the company premises.
„The company is attractive to investors because it is established on the market and has great potential. Consumers are also increasingly willing to pay more for food in glass containers, partly because the latter have a longer shelf life and are fully recyclable - in line with the trend towards sustainability. Accordingly, the demand for glass containers among food producers and packaging manufacturers is also tending to rise slightly. To respond to this, it can be helpful to work with an established company with a long tradition and an experienced team like Glashütte Freital.“
