J. Schmalz presents lightweight layer gripper for Cobot

In order to use lightweight robots for layer-by-layer palletising and depalletising, J. Schmalz GmbH has given its layer grippers a diet. The result is the weight-reduced ZLW lightweight layer gripper, which can lift up to 20 kilograms and only weighs between four and 7.5 kilograms, depending on its size.

Depending on the model and manufacturer, lightweight robots have a load capacity of up to 25 kilograms. In order to use them for layer-by-layer palletising and depalletising, J. Schmalz GmbH has given its layer grippers a diet.

The result is the lightweight ZLW layer gripper, which can lift up to 20 kilograms and only weighs between four and 7.5 kilograms, depending on its size. This means that a cobot can also palletise because the robot has enough payload for the actual handling task. The ZLW extends the SPZ series of layer gripping systems downwards and can grip several open, hollow or closed objects such as jars, cans or cardboard boxes with different dimensions at the same time. It compensates for height differences in the workpiece position with an optionally available spring-loaded flange.

In addition, configured Lard The lightweight gripper is customised: the user receives an efficient complete system with components that are matched to each other and to the task. The vacuum generator is also dimensioned so that it does not require more power than is necessary for process reliability. Smaller robots also require less power and therefore support sustainable automation, e.g. for feeding in production, automated warehousing or end-of-line palletising.

The developers have deliberately kept the structure lean: The sealing element is optionally fitted with individual plug-in suction cups or a sealing foam. A frame connects this to the honeycomb plate, on which a pressure relief valve, the VSi vacuum switch and the flange are mounted. The vacuum generator is separate.
