Mast-Jägermeister SE and Ardagh Glass Packaging Europe are launching bottles made from green glass produced in a hybrid melting furnace for the first time. The aim is to reduce CO₂ emissions by up to 64 per cent per bottle - a milestone for the sustainability goals of both companies, as they say.
The long-standing partnership between Jägermeister and Ardagh Glass Packaging Europe (AGP) has taken a decisive step forward with the use of the new „NextGen Furnace“. The world's first green spirits bottles made from a hybrid glass melting furnace are produced at the Obernkirchen plant in Lower Saxony. Thanks to 42 bottom electrodes, the innovative furnace enables electrical heating of up to 80 per cent and uses up to 60 per cent renewable energy - supplied by a power purchase agreement with Sunnic Lighthouse and Enerparc AG.

Hybrid technology for sustainable glass packaging
According to Ardagh, CO₂ emissions in the production of amber glass packaging could be reduced by 64 per cent with the NextGen furnace. This experience is now to be transferred to green glass. For Jägermeister, this marks a significant step towards achieving its own climate targets: Emissions from primary packaging are to be reduced by 50 per cent by 2030. Bottle production currently accounts for over 30 per cent of total emissions.
„The signing of a contract for up to 14 million 70cl bottles from the NextGen furnace in Obernkirchen is a milestone in our long-standing partnership with Ardagh Glass Packaging. The production of our green Jägermeister bottles with this new technology aims to reduce CO₂ emissions by an estimated 64 per cent per bottle1. This would directly contribute to our sustainability goals.“
Carsten Doliwa, Vice President Procurement at Mast-Jägermeister SE
As over 90 per cent of Jägermeister's emissions are generated outside of its direct operating activities (Scope 3), the cooperation with Ardagh is a key lever. „This collaboration shows how climate protection and brand identity can be combined through technology,“ says Christopher Ratsch, CEO of Mast-Jägermeister SE.
