Together with the companies Dow, Brückner Maschinenbau, Hosokawa Alpine and Elba, the Swiss company Bobst is presenting the latest solutions that enable the production of recyclable mono-material packaging. In this joint project, various flexible high-barrier monomaterials were used to test their recyclability. Each solution was carefully tested to ensure all industry requirements were met.
At the K 2019, a wide variety of Stand-up pouches made from monomaterials, such as MDO PE, BOPE, BOPP and CPP, which are the Requirements of a circular economy with a focus on mono-material films. In addition, the latest concepts for production systems and a New inline coating technology presented. The techniques of the Bobst Competence Centres were used for the suitability tests. In addition to monitoring the manufacturing process, the barrier effect and adhesion properties of the materials were tested.
Joint project realised
Dow leads the production chain as a resin supplier. Brückner Maschinenbau and Hosokawa Alpine represent extrusion. Brückner produced Biaxially stretched polyolefin films and Hasokawa Alpine MDO PE. In addition, the films were vapour-deposited with AlOx and coated with the Metallised AluBond® process and coated with a water-based protective layer for protection during further processing.
Finally, the films were printed alternately using flexographic printing with water-based inks and EB inks with a fixed colour set. The films were laminated with monomer-free adhesive and solvent-based protective adhesive in order to ensure the Barrier effect to increase.
The partner company Elba processed the finished rolls into bags. All finished bags are at all partner stands to see. The cooperation with Constantia Flexibles has also resulted in the production of metallised PE stand-up pouches as 100 per cent recyclable flexible packaging solution.
