The historic Austrian coffee roaster Julius Meinl has published its sustainability report and provides information about the company's commitment to the fight against climate change. Julius Meinl's sustainability goals include developing guidelines for the procurement of sustainable green coffee in 2022 and making coffee capsules made from 100 per cent biodegradable materials part of its product range.
Julius Meinl has invested in an in-depth scientific analysis of the entire coffee value chain. This involves analysing resources, cultivation and harvesting, transport, production, distribution and disposal, resulting in the Development of a strategy for long-term collaboration with stakeholders contribute to this.
Julius Meinl has taken several steps as part of its environmental impact assessment along the entire coffee value chain. These include the global procurement of Compostable cups and lids made from bagasse (the fibrous remains of sugar cane) for takeaway coffee. In 2020, the company decided to phase out its polyethylene capsules and replace them with compostable alternatives made from natural fibres. Every year, they eliminate 1 million non-recyclable cups and 20 million non-recyclable capsules from their production.
These initiatives are part of the Julius Meinl Mission. For over 160 years, the company has been promoting the sustainability of its products, which is a fundamental value today. To further strengthen its green approach, the company recently launched its first Global Sustainability Manager appointedwhich creates a direct channel between top management and employees in virtual live events to exchange views on company initiatives.
