Kaufland now offers unpackaged stations with organic food in a total of eight shops across Germany. Following positive tests in two shops last summer, the concept is now to be expanded further.
Customers can now fill pasta, rice and dried fruit according to their needs in a total of eight Kaufland shops. The unpackaged stations with organic food are already available in Pfungstadt and Steinheim/Murr and now brand new: in Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Cologne, Heidelberg and Leipzig. The aim of offering unpackaged goods is to reduce both plastic and food waste in private households.
Since last summer, Kaufland has been testing the stations in Pfungstadt and Steinheim/Murr.
"They have already been very well received by our customers there. We are now looking forward to the response in other cities. Our aim is to offer the concept individually in other selected shops."
Thomas SchäferHead of Merchandise Sales at Kaufland
The unpacked range at Kaufland includes around 40 staple foods such as rice, pasta, bulgur and quinoa, as well as chocolate-coated nuts, dried fruit and muesli. The food is supplied by Eco Terra. Customers can buy the food Fill into containers that you have brought with you or are offered on site. Special hygiene concepts apply to the stations, and all items are offered via dispensers so that there is no direct contact with food.
Kaufland already relies on numerous Solutions that reduce the use of plastic and thus conserve valuable resources. This includes plastic-reduced packaging, the phasing out of disposable carrier bags, the use of recycled PET bottles and the introduction of the fresh bag for fruit and vegetables and the reusable lid for dairy products. FC Bayern Munich and the Schwarz Group want to raise awareness of recycling and the circular economy among fans.

The Schwarz Group is making progress towards the goals of its Group-wide REset Plastic strategy through the cooperation between Schwarz Produktion, the Lidl and Kaufland retail divisions and the PreZero environmental division, both internationally and in Germany.

Kaufland offers a reusable box for loose eggs in organic quality. It is made of 100 per cent recyclable plastic.

Kaufland offers sand toys made from recycled plastic. The plastic is collected, cleaned and processed by PreZero.

As part of the Schwarz Group, the environmental service provider PreZero supplies recyclates from packaging waste. This week, these will find their way into the shops of the discounter Lidl in the form of household and garden items.
