The KHS Group has invested 20 million euros in the modernisation of its headquarters on Juchostrasse in Dortmund.

The last construction machines will be gone in the course of the spring, when the comprehensive process optimisation and measures at the Dortmund site will be completed.

„As a globally active company, we are in a competitive situation and want to continue producing in Germany. That's why we have further digitalised and automated our infrastructure and production processes.“ Dr Joachim Konrad, Plant Manager KHS

Key components of the modernisation were the Expansion of the production area and the modernisation of the machinery. KHS built a completely new production hall on the factory premises on Juchostrasse. On an area of 4,300 square metres the system provider thus created the conditions that Relevant technology for container and pack transport and to organise order processing more efficiently.

Six million investment

KHS also modernised one of the oldest production buildings on the company premises. With an investment volume of six million euros, the company not only modernised the hall floor and roof, but also the sheet metal production facilities housed within. The plant manufacturer optimised this with new technology. This includes a faster and more energy-efficient fibre laser, a punch-laser combination machine and a larger, fully automated sheet metal storage system.

There are numerous advantages for customers from the beverage industry, which include leading brands from all over the world. „The requirements are becoming more complex. Just as you configure a new car today, we can design our filling and packaging systems precisely to the customer's needs,“ says Konrad. „The great individuality for the customer is offset by cleverly compiled, standardised modular product kits, from which the systems are automatically designed and built.“ Production processes have been considerably simplified once again in the course of numerous optimisation measures.

Strong signal to the regional economy

With around 1,200 employees the company produces in Dortmund among others Machines for labelling, pasteurising and cleaning bottles, as well as transport technology of containers in industrial beverage production.

For KHS, the modernisation represents a commitment to the plant on Juchostrasse, says ConradThe Dortmund site is also of great importance to the KHS Group due to its position as a global company headquarters. With our investments we are making it fit for the future. This is a strong signal to the regional economy.„

The company will also become more involved locally beyond this. The company is participating in the development of a Science 2.0 master plan, which was approved by the Dortmund Council last November. KHS is exchanging ideas with representatives of other companies and the TU Dortmund University in the field of production technology.

„We are happy to make our contribution to a strong regional economy and can contribute our practical experience there. As a major industrial employer, we also benefit from well-trained skilled workers,“ says Conrad.
