The Klingele Group, one of the leading independent manufacturers of corrugated base paper and corrugated board packaging, and Koenig & Bauer, the world's second largest printing press manufacturer, are setting new standards in printing technology for packaging as part of a development partnership. The two companies have now reached a new milestone with the successful factory acceptance of a newly developed CorruCUT High Board Line rotary die-cutter by Klingele following a prototype test phase.

Koenig & Bauer has completely redesigned the highly productive 6-colour press in close cooperation with Klingele and adapted it to the specific market and production requirements. The CorruCUT will be assembled and commissioned at Klingele's Delmenhorst plant from August. The mechanical engineering design, the print quality achieved and the implementation of the operating concept have not only impressed Klingele, but have also generated very positive feedback from visitors from the global corrugated board industry.

Quantum leap in terms of quality and performance

The combination of high print quality and precision as well as market-leading performance represents a significant advancement in printing technology for the packaging industry. With the new machine, Klingele is targeting market segments that place high demands on the print image and process reliability of packaging. These include brand owners in particular, but also food manufacturers who use packaging as an advertising medium at the point of sale.

The technical specifications of the new CorruCUT are geared towards precisely these demanding requirements: In addition to its excellent print quality, it offers very high register accuracy during printing and die-cutting; this significantly reduces waste and boosts resource efficiency. With a working width of 2.80 metres and 12,000 inserts per hour, the CorruCUT is extremely efficient; it also makes it easier to produce large-format packaging and displays.

The machine has a roller-free infeed so that the corrugated cardboard sheets are fed into the machine without damaging the material. The vacuum roller transport within the CorruCUT also ensures significantly reduced wear and tear and therefore fewer machine downtimes and lower spare parts costs. Automated data analyses will enable predictive maintenance of the machine in the future, thus avoiding unexpected breakdowns.

Development partnership as a win-win

The development partnership between Klingele and Koenig & Bauer is a win-win for both sides: With the broadest product programme in the industry, Koenig & Bauer is the second largest printing press manufacturer in the world and a leader in many printing processes. With Klingele as its exclusive partner, Koenig & Bauer is now strengthening its commitment in the growing market for corrugated board processing machines. For Klingele, the partnership offered the opportunity to actively support the development of the new rotary die-cutter from the very beginning, thus ensuring that the machine fully meets the demands of the market.

„Koenig & Bauer has implemented the concept and the technical innovations very well. The results that we have now seen in Würzburg have convinced us“
Dr Jan Klingele, Managing Partner of the Klingele Group.

„Over the last two years, we have continuously built up a new team and worked consistently on the development of the machine.“
Christoph Müller, Member of the Management Board at Koenig & Bauer

Focussing on growth markets such as conventional and digital packaging printing is part of Koenig & Bauer's successful strategy.
