Mondi supplies a packaging solution with integrated digital printing technology that enables Komsa to ship up to 35,000 parcels a day without labels. The solution is part of Mondi's expanded digital printing portfolio, which was made possible by the acquisition of Schumacher Packaging.
With the acquisition of Schumacher Packaging's Western European plants, Mondi has integrated high-performance digital printing technology into its own portfolio. Komsa, a distributor for digital infrastructure in Germany, utilises this technology, to have consecutive barcodes printed directly onto the corrugated board packaging, without additional labels or manual labelling.
Komsa dispatches up to 35,000 parcels a day. To cope with this volume to ensure next-day delivery, any time saved is crucial. One important factor is the integration of continuous barcodes on the packaging using high-performance digital printing from Mondi.
At Komsa, 60 scanners along the packaging line record and allocate the parcels. Each parcel has its own individual barcode. In the past, a label dispenser applied the barcodes. Today, they are already printed on the packaging. placed exactly on all four sides. This saves valuable time every day and reduces costs and sources of error.

Mondi's high-performance digital printing not only enables customised barcodes, but also even complex print images in high resolution and all without printing plates or clichés. The process uses water-based, food-safe colours, saves resources and offers maximum flexibility. Series, seasonal campaigns, regional designs and individualised QR codes can be implemented in a single production run - with short lead times and faster time-to-market.
